Clinical Trials
When melanoma or complex skin cancer threatens a life, treatment teams need to move within days, not years. Clinical trials are essential to improving prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Our clinical trials program continues a long-standing tradition of research excellence in Queensland – clearing the pathway between laboratory discovery and multidisciplinary clinical expertise, so promising ideas reach patients sooner.
Our Approach
Clinical trials at QMI are delivered through the Queensland Melanoma Project (QMP) Clinical Trials Unit. Building on more than six decades of melanoma research leadership in Queensland, the QMP Clinical Trials team coordinates and manages a comprehensive portfolio of investigator-initiated and collaborative studies.
Working within a multidisciplinary clinic, the QMP ensures trials are conducted to the highest standards of safety, ethics and scientific rigour, while keeping research and patient care connected every step of the way.
Research priorities are informed by both scientific discovery and frontline clinical insight - ensuring trials address real patient needs.
QMP coordinates and supports a broad portfolio of clinical trials across:
Understanding Clinical Trials & Research
Cancer Council Australia have comprehensive guides that explain clinical trials and cancer research in plain language, including what trials involve, how they work and what to consider, so you can feel informed and confident about your options.
Their trusted resources go well beyond research, too.
Patients, carers and families can find practical support for every stage of the cancer experience, from eating well during treatment to navigating work, finances and everyday life.
For Patients and Families
Considering a clinical trial can feel complex. Our team is committed to providing clear information and compassionate guidance to help patients make informed decisions.
Participation in a clinical trial is always voluntary. Before joining a study, patients receive detailed information about the purpose of the trial, potential benefits, possible risks and what participation involves. Ongoing monitoring and support are provided throughout the process.
If you would like to know whether a clinical trial may be appropriate for you or someone you care for, we encourage you to speak with your treating specialist.
